Where It All Began: UnityStream's First Module in Dublin

Every journey has a first step. For UnityStream — the Erasmus+ programme uniting Ireland, Italy, Romania and Türkiye — that step was taken in Dublin from 3 to 5 July 2025, when The Africa-Irish Development Initiative (AIDI) Limited, as the coordinating organisation of the project, hosted the First Staff Course: Digital Media for Promoting European Identity and Active Citizenship.

Day 1 — Understanding European Identity and the Role of Digital Media. Participants explored what European identity means in 2025, and how digital media shapes the way communities see themselves and each other.

Day 2 — Social Media and Active Citizenship. Using social media platforms effectively; how social media can promote active citizenship; digital storytelling techniques; and a hands-on digital storytelling practice session.

Day 3 — Hands-on Activities and Blogging. Creating digital media content; an introduction to blogging; creating and sharing blog posts; and a reflection and closing session — ending with the presentation of certificates to participants.

The module reached beyond the training room. The group walked the streets of Dublin together and spent time in one of the city's galleries, where art became a way to talk about identity, heritage and belonging — the very heart of the programme. And true to AIDI's roots, the days opened out into the community with a celebration of flags, drums and dance that filled the streets.

For AIDI, hosting the opening module was a full-circle moment. The organisation that began Black History Month Ireland in a Cork room in 2008 was now welcoming Europe to Dublin — carrying the same conviction that has guided our work ever since: that when people of every background are given the tools and the trust, they don't just join the conversation, they lead it.

From Dublin, the stream flowed on: to Rome in March 2026 for inclusive youth work, to Tokat in July 2026 for media production, and finally to Curtea de Argeș, Romania, this November for the closing youth exchange. But it began here — and we are proud that it did.
